Forty questions below, with the answer and the figure behind it, all drawn from the same dataset that powers the Geopolitix daily game (World Bank, Our World in Data, WHO, Eurostat, The Economist and Wikipedia). They are grouped from easy to genuinely difficult, and every answer is regenerated whenever the underlying data is refreshed, so this page does not go stale the way a hand-typed quiz does.

Population, GDP, life expectancy, rainfall, forest cover and emissions: World Bank. Alcohol, food, working hours, height, divorce and trust: Our World in Data. Tobacco and depression: WHO Global Health Observatory. Age of leaving home: Eurostat. Big Mac prices: The Economist. Olympic, Paralympic and World Cup tables: Wikipedia. Each statistic's vintage is printed under the corresponding table elsewhere on this blog, and every one of these questions is generated from that dataset rather than typed in, so refreshing the data refreshes the answers.

Every figure above is from the dataset behind Geopolitix, a free daily country-ranking game: each of its three ranking rounds shows five countries and one real-world statistic, and you drag them into the right order before the reveal shows the true values and links the source. Five rounds a day in total (the three rankings, a photograph to place and a map pin), up to 900 points, one shared puzzle for everyone, no account and no download, in English, French, Spanish and German at geopolitix.live. What are some good country trivia questions?

The best ones exploit a gap between reputation and data: which country really drinks the most beer (Czechia, not Germany), which works the longest hours (Sudan, not Japan), and where the United States ranks for life expectancy (45th).

What is the hardest geography trivia question?

Anything asking for an order rather than a single fact. Most people know the largest country; very few can correctly rank five mid-sized countries by population or by GDP per capita, which is why ranking questions separate a quiz field so effectively.

Are these trivia answers up to date?

Yes. Every answer on this page is generated from the live Geopolitix dataset at build time, with the source and data year published alongside each ranking, so the questions cannot drift out of date the way a hand-written quiz does.

Can I use these questions for a pub quiz or a class?
